Foam rolling be came a global name in  mid 2000’s since then , it’s  popularity has risen off the charts. personally I have been using this tool with many high level athletes since 2007 and can personally vouch for it, this is a old video of Foam rolling. I would call it version 1 due to the available information at that time, read the blog ,podcast &  YT for version 2 with scientific research links especially will foam rolling/trigger points actually works / is it a placebo what’s the scientific data backing this methodology.
